Welcome to the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, one of the newest schools established at the university. Despite its youth, the school has quickly positioned itself as a centre of excellence for scholarship and research in the humanities and social sciences. We are committed to strengthening the university’s proud tradition of academic excellence grounded in the enduring values of freedom of thought, tolerance, inclusivity, and service.
As the Dean of the School, I prioritise academic excellence, administrative efficiency, transparency, equity, and predictability. My commitment extends to providing improved student support, fostering a superior work environment for staff, and promoting the internationalisation of our programmes.
Our faculty consists of highly qualified lecturers, with all full-time staff holding doctoral degrees from both local and international universities. They bring vast experience in teaching, research, consultancy, and outreach and are continuously engaged in national, regional, and international assignments. Their scholarly contributions are widely published, further enhancing the school’s academic reputation.
The school offers diverse, competitive, and demand-driven academic programs, including diploma, undergraduate, and postgraduate degrees. These programmess are housed within two departments: the Department of Humanities and the Department of Social Sciences. Our programs aim to equip students with critical thinking skills, problem-solving abilities, and market-ready expertise to thrive in an increasingly dynamic world. They focus on issues fundamental to human existence, societal interactions, improving the quality of life, and preparing society for a technologically advanced future. Currently, the School has a student population of 1,747.
Our graduates find employment opportunities in government agencies, non-governmental and faith-based organisations, the private sector, and research and training institutions. Many have also ventured into national and civic politics. Outstanding students benefit from scholarships provided by the University, the National and County governments, and other generous well-wishers.
Through academic programmes approved by the University Senate and the Commission for University Education, students are well prepared for rewarding careers by a team of dedicated staff and enjoy a learning environment that allows them to reach their full potential.
As we strive to leverage best practices in teaching and learning, the school remains dedicated to helping students become critical thinkers, problem solvers, and well-prepared professionals in the 21st-century marketplace. It is my hope that you will fully engage with the learning opportunities offered here and enjoy your time at the School of Humanities and Social Sciences as you work toward realising your career aspirations.
Welcome, and I look forward to supporting you on your academic journey.
